How To Cure Erectile Dysfunction Without Drugs

This situation is familiar to many men:

You’re naked in bed with your partner. You want to get it on. She is ready.

But when it’s time for action – you’ve gone soft..!

Your mind desperately wants it to happen, but your junior is leaving you hanging. He’s not interested whatsoever.

I’ve been there. Most guys have been there. Some of us struggle with it all the time.

Erectile dysfunction (‘ED‘) can shatter a man’s confidence to pieces. It can ruin his self-worth and turn his world upside down. But even worse, it can also ruin relationships and families.

In this post, I will explain:

Let’s get to the details. ?

What Is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is the persistent inability to achieve and maintain a penis adequately erect, for successful penetrative sexual intercourse.

Let’s make sure we understand this definition and its three key variables:

Firstly, ED in all cases means trouble ‘getting it up’.

Secondly, ED can also be a scenario where you get it up initially, but you tend to ‘go soft’ before the deed is done.

And thirdly, that these troubles are of a long-term nature. Meaning, should you have struggled to ‘get it up’ once in the past, this is not ED. But if you continue to struggle with this for months, or if this is of a permanent nature, we talk about the condition erectile dysfunction.

Also, as a side note:

When you start struggling with erectile dysfunction, it is often a gradual process.

Meaning, you will often first be able to initiate sex just fine, but start ‘going soft’ during sex.

Then it will often be increasingly difficult to maintain your erections during sex.

And as the ED progresses, you will often find it more and more difficult to get hard enough to initiate sex.

Now that we understand exactly what ED is, let’s explore the most common reasons for why ED happens.

What Are The Underlying Reasons For Erectile Dysfunction

Reasons For Erectile Dysfunction
In order for your penis to get hard, it needs to fill with blood. If that doesn’t happen, you simply cannot get an erection.

Therefore, the number one underlying cause of erectile dysfunction is always inadequate bloodflow.

But what causes this bloodflow to your penis to become impaired?

There are 2 main reasons for this:

  • Narrow blood vessels and too thick blood
  • Broken communication and faulty operations

Let’s look at these two reasons in more detail.

1. ED Can Be Caused By Narrow Blood Vessels And Too Thick Blood

We already know that in order for you to get an erection, blood needs to flow to your penis.

But what if your blood vessels have become super narrow or even blocked?

This can happen when ‘stuff’ in your blood starts to attach to the inner walls of your blood vessels. This ‘stuff’ is normally glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, white blood cells, calcium and other substances.

When this formation gets severe, you will have a layer of plaque covering the inner walls of your veins. This condition is called atherosclerosis.

This plaque, when severe, can narrow the opening of the blood vessels. And when narrower, your blood vessels cannot transport as much blood as before.

Also, the blood vessels in your penis are ultra thin. So it doesn’t take much plaque to cause bloodflow disruptions in these blood vessels.

This can make it significantly more difficult to get erections.

There is one more bloodflow problem:

Thicker blood.

When your blood contains more sugar and fat (and other ‘stuff’) than it should, it becomes thicker. And thicker blood flows less smoothly through your blood vessels.

Particularly in the ultrathin capillaries in your penis.

If your blood is so thick that it cannot get to your penis (in adequate volume), you will not be able to get a full erection.

Now, combine thick blood with plaque buildup, and the problem is magnified. This will normally make it even more difficult to produce strong erections.

2. ED Can Be Caused By Broken Communication And Faulty Operations

Erection Problem
For the penis to go from flaccid to erect is actually a very complicated process. It consists of a multitude of steps that need to happen one after the other. And it involves a large number of neurotransmitters, hormones and other agents.

If only one of these steps, or if one of the agents in this process falters, the whole process may break down. The result of this may be a penis that will not fill with blood, and as a result, a penis that will not get hard.

Let’s discuss some of the most important factors in this process.

Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, and its job is to support and govern anything of a sexual nature that happens in your body.

In other words, you need testosterone to ‘get it up’, and you also need testosterone to have a sex drive.

And should your testosterone be low, you are significantly more likely to struggle with erectile dysfunction. This is because testosterone then cannot communicate the messages it needs to, and support the operations of your sexual functions.

An unfortunate fact is that male testosterone levels have fallen sharply over the last few decades. This is likely linked to the change in our lifestyle and changes in our environment.

Nitric oxide is a neurotransmitter that is also paramount to the erection process.

Why?

Because nitric oxide holds the key to the gates of your blood vessels.

When your penis is flaccid, the blood vessels in your penis are squeezed flat. In order for you to get an erection, they need to open up and fill with blood.

And for that to happen, nitric oxide first needs to be produced inside your blood vessels. This nitric oxide then opens the blood vessels which allows for blood to engorge your penis.

Dopamine is another key agent. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is given the responsibility of setting off the entire erection process.

Here is how it works:

In order for an erection to happen, dopamine needs to be synthesized in your brain. It then needs to travel down your spinal cord to the nerves in your penis. Here it instructs nitric oxide to open the blood vessels so that your penis can fill with blood.

Therefore, should you not manufacture enough dopamine, the signalling from your brain will normally be weak, and therefore your erections are likely to be weak as well.

There are several other agents playing parts in this process, but testosterone, dopamine and nitric oxide are 3 of the most important ones.

Now to the next set of questions:

What causes plaque to build up inside blood vessels, what causes blood to get thicker, and what causes the communication and operations to falter..?

The answer is normally (but not always) unhealthy lifestyle habits.

Let’s learn more about these.

Unhealthy Lifestyle Habits That Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Unhealthy Lifestyle Habits
The following are common unhealthy lifestyle habits that can cause ED:

  • Overexposure to porn and masturbation
  • A poor diet
  • Lack of exercise
  • Too much stress
  • Not enough sleep
  • Inadequate sunshine
  • Psychological problems
  • A weak pelvic floor

Let’s address these one by one.

1. Porn and Masturbation Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Research studies have demonstrated that excess porn use can cause erectile dysfunction.

The problem with porn is that it provides you with extreme and very unrealistic experiences.

You can have virtual sex with 30 women in a day, you can have a threesome, switch to a granny, then a young Asian, then two black women. There are virtually no limits for what kinds of sexual experiences you can have.

And this is not healthy.

Because it causes an excess production and accumulation of dopamine in your brain. And over time, this excess dopamine exhausts your dopamine receptors.

Your dopamine receptors simply cannot handle all the dopamine. They then start working slower, then they get fatigued, and in the end they may even die.

When your dopamine receptors are fatigued or dead, it becomes much more difficult to get erections. Because the dopamine signalling from your brain to your penis is broken.

At that point, being naked in bed with a human being will normally not be enough to get you hard. If you get to this point, you struggle with what is called porn-induced erectile dysfunction.

2. A Poor Diet Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Research has also shown that a poor diet can cause erectile dysfunction.

A healthy diet is essential for two main reasons.

Firstly, the foods and drinks you consume are the building materials you use to both construct and repair your body.

If you provide yourself with inferior building materials, several functions in your body will normally start to break down. The ability to ‘get it up’ is one of those functions.

Secondly, the foods and drinks you consume are the fuel you utilize to walk, move, think, desire, work, etc.

If you give yourself bad fuel, you will normally operate slower and not be able to perform at an optimal level. This also includes sexual activities.

Therefore, a poor diet is a common reason why many men struggle with ED.

3. Lack Of Exercise Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Lack Of Exercise
The modern human being often sits on his or her butt for more than 9 hours every day.

The thing is:

Our bodies thrive with activity and exercise.

It improves production of testosterone, dopamine, nitric oxide and it keeps our heart and blood vessels in shape.

Think of exercise like maintenance. You need it on an ongoing basis. And if you don’t exercise, your body is likely to slowly degrade and experience atrophy.

And this is also the case for sexual functions. Research has found that lack of exercise is a key reason for erectile dysfunction in many men.

However if you do exercise, you can keep yourself young well into old age.

4. Stress Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Stress is often enemy number one to your sexual abilities. This is supported by a large body of scientific research.

Excess stress is negative for two main reasons.

Firstly, when you stress, your brain puts your body on ‘high alert’ mode, reacting to a potentially dangerous situation.

Back in the days, this was often triggered by the appearance of a dangerous animal..

Today, stress can be triggered by an unhappy boss or office politics. However, the response in your brain is the same.

During stress, your brain sends extra resources to those functions that are critical for overcoming the stressful situation. So you get extra energy, get more alert, see better, hear better, etc.

But these extra resource come at the expense of others:

Your brain also switches off those functions that are not necessary for dealing with the stressful situation. Hence, your brain switches off your reproductive and immune system (and others).

What use are these systems if you are chased by a bear?

Therefore, when you stress, your reproductive system is normally off.

Secondly, when you stress, your brain floods your body with chemicals that help you achieve this alertness and energy.

The three most important ones are adrenaline, norepinephrine and cortisol.

And excess level of these chemicals over time will normally decrease your ability to produce erections.

Hence, if you stress frequently, you are significantly more likely to struggle with ED.

5. Inadequate Sleep Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Inadequate Sleep Routine
Sleep is paramount in order to restore your body and mind after a day of intense use, clean your brain, organs and muscles of toxins, and prepare you for a new day with a blank sheet.

But research has demonstrated sleep is also critical for your sexual functions.

And not only because it restores your brain and body. But also for your testosterone production.

Because it is when you sleep that you produce testosterone.

So if you only get 5 hours of sleep instead of 7, you miss out on 2 hours of testosterone production.

And with low testosterone levels, your sexual functions are likely to sputter. And erectile dysfunction is likely to come knocking.

6. You Need Sunshine To Function Optimally Sexually

Are you aware that sunshine is essential for optimal health?

It’s not only the plants that need sunshine to thrive – we do too!

Sunshine is super important to live well, to avoid diseases, be happy and to have overall good health.

But there is more:

Scientific studies have shown that you need sunshine to function optimally sexually.

There are several reasons for this, but one key reason is vitamin D3.

When the sun hits your skin, the UVB sunrays enable you to produce vitamin D3.

And this vitamin is a building block of testosterone. Therefore, in order for you to produce testosterone, you need this vitamin D. And if you don’t have enough, you cannot produce adequate amounts of testosterone.

And erectile dysfunction is significantly more common in men with low testosterone.

7. Psychological Problems Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

Psychological Problems
If you struggle with psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, low-self esteem, etc., you are also more likely to deal with erectile dysfunction.

Studies and experiments have demonstrated this connection.

Psychological problems tend to fill your mind with negative thoughts and preoccupations, instead of healthier thoughts.

In turn, this can crowd out healthy and normal thought processes. And it can leave little or no mental space for healthy sexual thoughts and interests.

This can make you lose interest in sex. And it may cause an inability to function well sexually.

Psychological problems can also cause hormonal or chemical imbalances, which can directly cause erectile dysfunction and libido issues.

8. A Weak Pelvic Floor Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

To be fit and well-trained is a positive when it comes to functioning well sexually. But in addition, there is a particular part of your body that is very important to keep in shape.

Your pelvic floor muscles.

These are the muscles that stretch from your penis to your anus.

A research study has even gone as far as recommending pelvic floor exercises as the first line treatment for ED. Meaning, before any other treatment.

These muscles are important because they support your erections.

With a strong pelvic floor, you will normally find it easier to get and maintain erections. And with a weak pelvic floor, you will normally be more likely to struggle with erectile dysfunction.

Therefore, in addition to your regular exercises, you may also consider adding pelvic floor exercises to your exercise routine.

So the above are some of the most common reasons for why men struggle with erectile dysfunction.

But what can you do to fix this? How can you overcome your ED naturally?

How To Cure Erectile Dysfunction Naturally And Permanently

Cure Erectile Dysfunction Naturally And Permanently
We just went through the most common reasons for why ED normally happens. You now know what the key factors are.

And if you currently struggle with ED, you may already realize that you are ‘guilty’ of one or more of the above ‘sins’.

For instance, if your diet is far from optimal, you know that this is a likely candidate for your ED. Or if you never get sunshine, you know that your testosterone levels may be low.

Therefore, armed with this knowledge, you may already know which specific points you could work on.

However, ED is often the result of more than one factor. That is because very few people live super healthy. For instance, it is common for an average man to stress significantly, not sleep enough, for his diet to be less than ideal, and it is likely that he does not exercise enough.

As a result, to overcome ED and to restore our sexual functions, we might need an overhaul of our lifestyles.
We might just need to get back to the basics. To live more like we were intended to live back in the days.

I apply this approach to my own life. I simply live super healthy every day. You may think that it sounds difficult, but for me it’s not. In fact, I love living this way.

And by living like this, I also function super well sexually.

If you are keen to recover your sexual health, I recommend onboarding a super healthy lifestyle. If you are keen to apply this to your life, there are 8 core principles that I advocate:

  • Stop masturbating and watching pornography
  • Eat healthy (plant based whole foods)
  • Exercise regularly and walk more
  • Stop stressing
  • Sleep 7+ hours a night
  • Get 2+ hours of sun a week
  • Get in mental balance
  • Do Kegel exercises
